Now available exclusively and in limited quantities - Vicunja, the Gold of the Andes! Vicunja is the finest and most valuable animal fiber in the world, with an astonishingly fine 13 micron diameter, making it truly one of a kind. We proudly present this exquisite fiber in a luxurious gift set, encased in a handcrafted wooden box made by Peruvian artisans. These boxes were produced in a strictly limited edition of 100, each one numbered, and we've secured 50 of them just for you.

Each box contains two skeins of 25 grams of Vicunja yarn in black (dyed), an authenticity certificate, and instructions for knitting a small scarf.

Please note that this offer is extremely limited, and we cannot restock this edition!
ATTENTION: We need to apply for an export permit for orders outside of Germany, which can take a few days and the buyer then needs to apply for an import permit as well! So any placed orders are binding!

Vicunja wool was highly regarded even during the Inca era when approximately 1.5 million of these animals roamed the Peruvian Andes. In the early 20th century, Europeans also recognized the value of this precious fiber. Unfortunately, this led to a significant decline in the Vicuña population, with numbers plummeting to just under 6,000 by 1965. Extensive conservation efforts were subsequently initiated, resulting in a remarkable recovery. Vicunjas are now protected, and their wool has been tradeable since 2002, but only under specific regulations. The proceeds from licensing continue to support intensive conservation efforts for Vicunja.

A Vicunja can only be shorn every two years, yielding approximately 200 grams of wool each time. During the rounding-up for shearing, Vicunjas are carefully examined by veterinarians and receive necessary vaccinations. Following this, they are released back into the wild to roam freely for the next two years.
