Semilla Melange is one of our most popular yarns in the entire range for good reason.
It is slightly thicker and softer than our Organic Shetland and possesses the typical qualities of a woolen spun yarn. Despite its voluminous character, the yardage is remarkable, making it a strong contender in terms of price-performance ratio. The rustic appearance is achieved by not combing and sorting the individual fibers as extensively as in worsted yarns, where almost all fibers lie parallel. Instead, the curls are allowed to lie a bit more randomly, creating that lovely volume. Additionally, the raw material yield is higher in woolen spun yarns compared to worsted yarns.
As a woolen spun yarn, Semilla Melange is also very versatile when it comes to needle size. We recently decided to adjust the recommended needle size from 4-5mm to 3.5-4mm, as most people prefer a denser knit fabric. During the transitional period, different colors may have varying needle size recommendations. Don't be confused by this and knit as you prefer!
The raw wool for Semilla Melange comes from mulesing-free farms in Argentina and is spun and dyed in Turkey according to GOTS guidelines. Each stage of the production process is audited and certified according to GOTS criteria. From the contented sheep in the pasture to the dyes, spinning process, energy and resource consumption, and last but not least, the well-being of all employees along the entire production chain.
Attention: Felts when washed by machine. Thus perfectly suited for felting as well.
